Client-Centered Coaching for Lasting Change w/Dr. Renee Rogers
Achieving a health and fitness goal is hard, maintaining that achievement is even harder. If you’ve worked with clients for any length of time, you know how true this is. Many fitness professionals grow frustrated by their clients lack of long-term progress. It seems like the same cycle perpetuates itself. The client makes some positive change, only to fall back into old behaviors, feel bad, get motivated, and repeat the cycle over and over again. As frustrating as it is for the trainer, this can be down right demoralizing for clients, causing many to eventually give up entirely, assuming “fitness isn’t for them.”
There is a way to break that cycle of frustration and demoralization, and that is exactly the topic we’ll cover in episode 60 with Dr. Renee Rogers. Dr. Rogers is an expert in bio-behavioral healthy lifestyle intervention and platform design with a focus on using technology, media, and relevant engagement strategies to promote long-term adherence.

Our Guest: Dr. Renee Rogers
Dr. Rogers is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and the Chair of ACSM’s Strategic Health Initiative (SHI) for Behavior and Program Chair of ACSM’s International Health and Fitness Summit. She blends her background in theater and production with her formal academic training in Exercise Physiology, Behavior Change, and Weight Management to develop and implement innovative health promotion, physical activity, and weight management initiatives that encourage well-being, reduce sedentary behavior, and increase physical activity engagement. Playing many professional roles that include working as a practitioner, clinician, program director, researcher, and consultant shapes her translational approach to platform and programmatic design.
Dr. Rogers has a strong foundation in clinical research with expertise in the areas of developing and implementing lifestyle behavior-based weight management trials, and physical activity interventions. She has also been developing technology-based interventions using media and video since 2010 creating successful video interventions related to physical activity with progressive strategies for engaging different population groups including older adults, young adults/weight loss, and participants learning yoga and other modes of physical activity. She has even adapted a media intervention into Italian for a project that ran in the US and in Italy.
Dr. Rogers is currently working as an independent healthy lifestyle, fitness and wellness consultant where she develops programming platforms and interventions (research and corporate) that integrate the latest research and best practices for consumer engagement.
Dr. Rogers received her B.S. in Exercise Science from Youngstown State University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh.
